In an official statement, CAF announced that Kenya and Zimbabwe had failed to meet the criteria required by the FIFA Congress as a precondition for the ban to be lifted.

Thus, the groups of Kenya and Zimbabwe (groups 3 and 11) will consist of three teams, the first and the second of these groups qualifying for the continental championship.

Egypt were in Group D, which includes Guinea, Malawi and Ethiopia.
